§ 03.4 ── CLIMATE / ENERGY TRANSITION ── IN DEVELOPMENT
IN DEVELOPMENT · v0.0

For funds where LCA validity and TRL scoring meet multi-decade regulatory drift.

The Climate overlay is in design. The architecture is ready — it's the same Generic Architecture behind our Impact overlay (built, not yet engaged). What we're building is the segment-specific overlay. We're looking for our first Climate design partner to co-design it with.

§ 03.4.1 ── CHALLENGE

What makes Climate harder.

01

LCA VALIDITY UNDER CHANGING METHODS

LCA methodologies evolve as new data, boundary conventions, and impact categories come into accepted practice. A 2026 LCA isn't comparable to a 2028 LCA without explicit reconciliation. The audit chain preserves which LCA conventions were active at the time of any portfolio decision.

02

TRL SCORING ACROSS R&D-HEAVY PORTFOLIOS

Technology Readiness Levels (1–9) require domain judgment that varies by technology family. Battery chemistry, novel concrete, direct air capture, grid-scale storage — all have different TRL gates. Encoding partner judgment about TRL progression is what the overlay does.

03

MULTI-DECADE REGULATORY DRIFT

Climate regulation moves faster than fund timelines but slower than technology cycles. EU CSRD, the EU Taxonomy, US IRA, and CBAM all shift portfolio economics during the fund's life. The overlay tracks regulatory drift and surfaces material changes.

§ 03.4.2 ── OVERLAY ── IN DESIGN

What we're designing.

01

IPCC FRAMEWORK REFERENCES

AR6 + future cycles. Working Group I/II/III boundary conventions. Overlay tags which IPCC version was active at each decision; future replays use the historical convention.

02

LCA-DB INTEGRATIONS

ecoinvent · GaBi · NEEDS · industry-specific databases. Boundary reconciliation tooling. Audit-chain-linked LCA results per portfolio company.

03

TECHNOLOGY READINESS LEVEL SCORING

TRL 1–9 per technology family. Partner-defined gates and override conditions. Sub-thesis areas (battery storage, alt-fuels, DAC, fusion, agri-tech, grid software) carry their own TRL progression patterns.

04

CARBON ACCOUNTING AUDIT CHAIN

Scope 1/2/3 per portco. Attribution methodology versioned in overlay. PCAF Standard alignment. SBTi target verification when applicable. EU Taxonomy alignment surfaces for funds with SFDR posture.

05

REGULATORY DRIFT TRACKING

Active monitoring of EU CSRD · EU Taxonomy · US IRA · CBAM · sector-specific regulation. Material changes flagged to partners with portfolio-impact assessment.

§ 03.4.3 ── KPIs · ADAPTED

Same eight KPIs. Climate-specific calibration.

§ 03.4.4 ── FIRST CLIMATE ENGAGEMENT

Co-design terms.

First-engagement funds in a new segment get co-design pricing and naming-as-reference rights (if mutually beneficial). Phase 0 remains free (10 working days, framework + synthetic-data PoC). Phase 1 scope reflects co-design. If we don't reach Tier-1 KPI gates together, you keep all artifacts including the Climate overlay v0.1 — unconditionally.

§ END ── FIRST CLIMATE FUND

If your fund is Climate or Energy Transition and you'd consider being our first Climate engagement — let's talk.
